Rutherfordton Launches a Main St Safari Track Trail

The Rutherfordton Historic Main Street TRACK Trail is a 0.5 mile walk that takes visitors past historic landmarks and features dating back to the Revolutionary War. Walk in the footsteps of Revolutionary War soldiers as the trail follows the Overmountain Victory Trail. Discover the history of the gold rush in North Carolina and see where the nations first $1 gold coin was minted at the Bechtler House. Take time to meander through the tree-shaded Kiwanis Park.

History is around every corner in Rutherfordton. The City Cemetery dates back to the Antebellum period before the Civil War and contains clues about the lives of the people who lived in that time. Along the trail, hikers will also see St. John’s Episcopal Church built in 1851, many original brick buildings, historic homes, and heritage centers with museum exhibits. There are lots of opportunities to make discoveries and connect to history on the Rutherfordton Historic Main Street TRACK Trail.
